Educational Leadership, what are YOU doing?

Children copy what they see

This week I’ve completed lots of coaching – and with a range of head teachers, educational leaders, some in the same team.

The theme that’s come out this week is around the challenges of creating a change in culture or way of operating. How can we as leaders of teams – or indeed leaders of a movement – really create the passion and conditions for these changes to happen?

Divide and rule? Dictate? No way!! We sure know that doesn’t work – and creates limited thinking, resentment and shuts down creativity.

I’ve heard lots of complaints and challenges about how school teams/individuals aren’t doing or being how the SLT wants them to be. Why don’t they change their behaviour, how can they ‘get’ them to respond or behave differently?

I wholeheartedly believe that the most powerful and honourable way to create a change of culture, including changes in responses/behaviour is to role model what you want to see.

Take a look at yourself. What are you doing or being? Could you be doing exactly what you are complaining about?

LEAD the way, LEAD the behaviour – BE the change you want to see. You will be amazed with the results.
